AHMEDABAD: A significant corruption scandal has emerged in Gujarat, with the Gandhinagar unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arresting five railway officials for allegedly accepting bribes from candidates for departmental examinations. This operation has raised serious concerns about integrity within the Indian Railways.

Details of the Arrests

Among those arrested are two officers from the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) stationed in the Vadodara Division. The arrested officials include:

  • Sunil Bishnoi – Senior Divisional Personnel Officer, 2008 IRPS batch

The CBI’s investigations revealed that these officials were allegedly collecting bribes from railway employees in exchange for favorable results in the upcoming ‘Limited Departmental Examination’ for promotions.

The Investigation Unfolds

Following a registered FIR against three Western Railway officials and a private individual, the CBI conducted raids across multiple locations, leading to the seizure of 650 grams of gold and ₹5 lakh in cash. The officials are accused of conspiring to profit from the examination process, with evidence indicating a well-organized bribery network.

As the investigation continues, the CBI aims to uncover the full extent of this bribery operation, potentially identifying more beneficiaries and intermediaries involved. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against corruption in India’s public sectors.
