ED Seizes Hotels in J&K’s Patnitop for Illegal Encroachment
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached two hotels in Patnitop, Jammu & Kashmir, namely Hotel Trinetra Resorts and Hotel Green Orchid, valued at Rs 15 crore. This action is part of a money laundering investigation linked to illegal encroachment on forest land, overseen by the Patnitop Development Authority.
Illegal Activities Under Scrutiny
Several hotels and resorts in the region are now under investigation for allegedly generating ‘proceeds of crime’ through unlawful encroachment on protected forest areas. The ED’s probe indicates that both Hotel Trinetra Resorts and Hotel Green Orchid exceeded construction limits set by the PDA. They also operated businesses in areas designated for agriculture and residential use, which is prohibited for commercial activities.
The Findings
The agency reported that these hotels undertook illegal construction beyond the approved limits, raising serious concerns about environmental regulations and land use laws. Such actions not only violate local laws but also threaten the ecological balance in the region.
