World Chess Champion D Gukesh Receives Hero’s Welcome from Chennai Super Kings

Newly crowned world chess champion, D Gukesh, was celebrated with a hero’s welcome at the MA Chidambaram Stadium by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The 18-year-old chess prodigy, who recently made headlines by becoming the youngest world chess champion, is now focused on his upcoming tournaments while inspiring athletes across various disciplines.

A Special Moment with Ravichandran Ashwin

During his visit, Gukesh met with the CSK squad and shared a memorable interaction with veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is making a much-anticipated return to the franchise after nearly a decade. The two masters of strategy engaged in a warm conversation before enjoying a friendly game of chess, which delighted fans and players alike.

Gukesh’s Remarkable Achievements

Gukesh, who defeated China’s Ding Liren to claim the world title, has taken the chess world by storm. He broke Garry Kasparov’s long-standing record and became only the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to achieve this prestigious title. Currently ranked World No. 3, Gukesh stands alongside chess legends like Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura.

Looking Ahead: Gukesh’s Goals

After a deeply personal visit to Tirumala Temple, where he sought blessings and performed traditional rituals, Gukesh remains grounded in his roots. He expressed his commitment to hard work, stating, “In 2025, there are a lot of important tournaments, so I’m focusing on that. I want to improve in all formats, and hopefully, at some point with God’s grace, good things will happen.”
