Farmers’ Talks: A Cordial Atmosphere and Future Discussions

CHANDIGARH: Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reported that recent discussions with farmer leaders were held in a cordial atmosphere, paving the way for the next round of talks scheduled for March 19 in Chandigarh.

Key Details from the Meeting

A fresh round of talks occurred on Saturday evening between protesting farmers and a central team led by Chouhan. The agenda focused on various demands, prominently including a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on crops. Notable attendees included Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Piyush Goyal.

Chouhan emphasized the importance of farmers’ welfare during the meeting, stating, “We heard views from farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher. A very good discussion took place.” However, he refrained from answering any media questions following the discussion.

Ongoing Protests and Commitment

It’s worth mentioning that Jagjit Singh Dallewal, 70, has been on a fast-unto-death at the Khanauri border point since November 26, highlighting the seriousness of the farmers’ plight and their demands for fair treatment.
