Political Turmoil in Assam: Khera vs. Sarma
New Delhi: In a recent political showdown, Congress leader Pawan Khera launched a fierce critique of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Khera’s remarks followed the arrest of Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh, igniting a heated exchange between the two political factions.
‘Days Are Numbered’
Khera accused Sarma of engaging in political vendetta, emphasizing that his tenure as Chief Minister is “limited.” He stated, “Even 10,000 Himanta Biswas can’t scare one Gaurav Gogoi,” highlighting the resilience of Congress leaders against police intimidation.
War of Words on X
The controversy escalated after Assam police arrested Reetam Singh over an alleged caste-based insult. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh condemned the move, labeling it an “abuse of police powers.” In response, Sarma hinted at serious allegations against Gaurav Gogoi, claiming links to ISI and Pakistan. Ramesh countered, calling Sarma the “outgoing CM” and accusing him of misusing police resources to target opposition members.
Telangana Caste Survey Debate
Additionally, Khera defended the Telangana government’s decision to enlist foreign experts for a caste survey, asserting that expertise knows no borders. He challenged the BJP to deny their own use of international advisors during their governance.
As tensions rise in Assam and Telangana, the Congress-BJP rivalry continues to intensify, showcasing the dynamic political landscape of India.
