Stalin Urges Newlyweds to Embrace Parenthood Amid Delimitation Concerns
TRICHY: Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M K Stalin has sparked a conversation about population growth in the context of the Union government’s planned delimitation exercise. Speaking at a wedding ceremony in Nagapattinam, he urged newlyweds to “immediately” have children, emphasizing that the state’s previous success in population control is now a potential disadvantage.
Stalin expressed concerns that the upcoming delimitation policies could threaten Tamil Nadu’s political representation. “This is a danger aimed at reducing our representation and crushing our voice,” he stated at a political event. Stalin previously referred to the proposed delimitation as a “sword” hanging over southern states, echoing sentiments shared by Congress-governed Karnataka and Telangana.
Call for Unity Against Delimitation
The Chief Minister has also called for political unity, urging parties that are boycotting a crucial all-party meeting on March 5 to reconsider. He emphasized the need for a collective voice against both delimitation and the Centre’s three-language policy under the New Education Policy.
Reflecting on the sentiments in Tamil Nadu, Stalin shared a touching story of a girl from Cuddalore who donated ₹10,000 in response to the Union government’s alleged withholding of funds, illustrating the strong local sentiment against the Centre’s actions.
