Centre Settles 490 Pension Complaints in Latest Adalat, Highlights Women-Centric Reforms

Pension Adalat: A Step Towards Empowering Pensioners

NEW DELHI: The latest edition of the pension adalat, an initiative by the Central Government to address the issues faced by pensioners, achieved remarkable success last month. Junior Personnel Minister Jitendra Singh announced that out of 531 complaints, 490 were resolved on the spot. This initiative has been pivotal in ensuring that pensioners receive the assistance they need promptly.

Women-Centric Reforms in Pension Rules

During the 34th meeting of the Standing Committee of Voluntary Agencies (SCOVA), Minister Singh highlighted several reforms aimed at supporting women. Notably, these reforms allow a childless widow to claim her deceased husband’s pension even after remarriage. Additionally, divorced or separated daughters can now claim family pensions if divorce proceedings began during the parent’s lifetime, all without waiting for the conclusion of the divorce suit.

Enhanced Rights for Women Pensioners

Furthermore, a woman pensioner can now prioritize her children for family pensions over her husband in cases of marital discord, which can arise from divorce or domestic violence issues. These changes reflect the government’s commitment to empowering women and ensuring their financial security.

Success of the Pension Adalat Initiative

The pension adalat initiative has resolved over 70% of grievances across 12 editions since its inception in 2017. Minister Singh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving the lives of pensioners through streamlined processes and technology-driven solutions. The meeting also focused on key policy reforms and digital initiatives aimed at enhancing pensioners’ welfare.
