Skill India Programme Gets a Major Boost with Rs 8,800 Crore Outlay
NEW DELHI: In a significant step towards enhancing the skill development landscape in India, the Cabinet has approved a whopping Rs 8,800 crore for the Skill India Programme until 2025-26. This initiative aims to provide industry-aligned training across the nation, ensuring that the workforce is well-equipped for the future.
Components of the Revamped Skill Programme
The revamped programme consists of three key components: PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0) with an allocation of Rs 6,000 crore, PM National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS) with Rs 1,942 crore, and Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) with Rs 858 crore. The initiative emphasizes a structured approach to skill development, offering on-the-job training and community-based learning. It aims to cater to both urban and rural populations, including marginalized communities.
Focus on Emerging Fields
The government has highlighted that PM-NAPS will now encompass the service sector alongside manufacturing, creating apprenticeship opportunities in cutting-edge fields such as AI, robotics, blockchain, green energy, and Industry 4.0 technologies. This approach aligns with the ever-evolving job market, preparing the younger generation for future careers.
Commitment to Sanitation Workers
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the extension of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) for three years, with an outlay of approximately Rs 51 crore. This initiative aims to uplift the socio-economic conditions of sanitation workers and ensure their safety while performing hazardous tasks.
