BCCI Stands Firm on Family Policy During Overseas Tours
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to the newly-revised policy regarding players’ families during overseas tours, despite some reservations voiced by senior players. This policy, which has been in place for decades with recent updates, permits family members to accompany players for up to two weeks on tours exceeding 45 days. Additionally, it encourages contracted players to participate in domestic cricket whenever possible, furthering team unity and player development.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that the policy is not a sudden change but rather an evolution of longstanding practices. As part of the new guidelines, spouses and children under 18 can join the players, allowing them to maintain a semblance of normalcy during lengthy tours. However, some players, including former captain Virat Kohli, have expressed a desire for more family presence, highlighting the emotional and mental benefits of having loved ones nearby.
