Devajit Saikia Optimistic About India’s ICC Champions Trophy Chances
NEW DELHI: BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has expressed unwavering confidence in India’s prospects at the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, despite the notable absence of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The seasoned administrator believes that the depth of talent within the Indian squad will mitigate any impact due to Bumrah’s unavailability.
Strong Team Composition
The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has appointed Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement. The pace attack will be spearheaded by Mohammad Shami, alongside Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya. Saikia stated, “We have picked the best team for the Champions Trophy. And I believe we will win the trophy. India has such a big bench strength, and I don’t think Bumrah’s absence will have any major issue with the team combination.”
Recent Performances Boost Team Morale
With senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in fine form, the team’s spirits are high. Rohit recently scored a century in the second ODI against England, while Kohli contributed a half-century in the final ODI. India showcased their dominance by winning the ODI series 3-0 and the T20I series 4-1.
Upcoming Matches
India will kick off their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20, followed by a critical match against Pakistan on February 23 and a fixture against New Zealand on March 2.
