NEW DELHI: Devajit Saikia, the newly-appointed BCCI secretary, has confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India will fully adhere to the ICC’s guidelines regarding Team India’s jersey for the upcoming Champions Trophy. This statement aims to clarify any confusion surrounding the jersey design, particularly in light of security concerns that led India to decline traveling to Pakistan for the tournament.
The Champions Trophy is set to kick off on February 19, with India commencing their campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Following this, India will face arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23 and conclude the group stage against New Zealand on March 2.
Leadership and Squad Composition
Rohit Sharma will lead a 15-member squad, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain. Notably, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been included pending final fitness clearance, as he has been on rest for five weeks. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar indicated that Bumrah’s participation will be clearer in the first week of February.
The squad includes a mix of experienced and young players, featuring stalwarts such as Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. The spin department has been bolstered with the inclusion of Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav, enhancing batting depth and versatility.
