Atishi Congratulates Rekha Gupta: A New Era for Women in Delhi Politics
NEW DELHI: The recent appointment of Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister of Delhi by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sparked significant discussions in political circles. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi extended her congratulations to Gupta, emphasizing the importance of the BJP delivering on its promises to the citizens of Delhi.
A Step Forward for Women’s Representation
Atishi remarked, “It is a very positive step that women are getting representation in politics. Even after so many years of independence, we see that only Mamata Banerjee currently holds the position of Chief Minister in any Indian state. Rekha Gupta’s appointment is a matter of pride for the women of this country.”
Promises to Women of Delhi
While celebrating Gupta’s achievement, Atishi also highlighted the need for the BJP to fulfill its commitments to women, such as providing Rs 2,500 as an honorarium. She urged that this should be addressed in the very first cabinet meeting and credited to women’s accounts by March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
A Historic Victory
Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, made headlines by winning the Shalimar Bagh constituency, defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by an impressive margin of 29,595 votes. This victory signifies a notable shift in the political landscape of the region.
