SILIGURI: In a shocking incident that has left the local community in disbelief, an assistant manager at Jayantika Tea Garden in the Phansidewa block of Darjeeling district’s Siliguri subdivision was killed by a garden worker on Thursday. The victim, Nilanjan Bhadra, was attacked from behind with a sharp weapon, resulting in his immediate death.

The Attack

According to reports from Roshan Gupta, the accused, identified as Elthrus Ekka, has been arrested. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attack occurred in the plantation area of the tea garden, where Bhadra was working at the time. Police investigations reveal that Ekka confessed to the crime, claiming he was motivated by a personal grievance—specifically, that Bhadra had falsely implicated him in a fraud case involving Rs 70,000.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, authorities swiftly sealed off the tea garden. Forensic experts have been dispatched to collect evidence, ensuring a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. The body of Nilanjan Bhadra has been sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
