NEW DELHI: The upcoming assembly elections are set to significantly influence the seat share of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Both parties have nominated several sitting councillors who, if victorious in the assembly elections, will need to resign from their civic positions.
Currently, AAP holds a slim lead over BJP in the MCD with 122 councillors, following their performance in the 2022 elections where AAP secured 134 seats, BJP 104, and Congress 9. With the mayoral election looming in April, the stakes are high for the sitting councillors.
