IAS Anurag Srivastava Honoured with Prime Minister’s Award
LUCKNOW: Anurag Srivastava, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department, has been selected for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration, 2023. He will be recognized for his innovative application of solar power in Jal Jeevan Mission projects.
Innovative Solar Power Initiatives
A 1992 batch IAS officer, Srivastava’s pioneering work in solar energy has transformed water supply projects across Uttar Pradesh. The Union Ministry of Personnel communicated this recognition to the Chief Secretary, emphasizing Srivastava’s commitment and successful implementation of solar-powered water schemes.
Significant Achievements
Uttar Pradesh has become the first state to implement solar power extensively in the Jal Jeevan Mission, with over 80% of its 41,539 projects harnessing solar energy, generating 900 megawatts daily. This initiative has reduced water supply costs by more than 50% and is projected to save around Rs 1 lakh crore over 30 years.
Empowering Communities
Under this mission, 12.50 lakh individuals in rural areas have been trained to operate and maintain these solar-based water projects, fostering local ownership and sustainability.

The award selection involves a thorough five-stage screening process, ensuring that only the most innovative and impactful projects are recognized. The final selection is made by the Prime Minister, underscoring the award’s prestige.
