Anna Hazare Remembers Manmohan Singh: A Legacy Against Corruption

Remembering Manmohan Singh: A Legacy of Integrity and Progress

MUMBAI: Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare expressed his condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, emphasizing his commitment to the welfare of the nation. “Those who are born have to die, but some leave memories and their legacy behind. Singh gave a new direction to the country’s economy,” Hazare stated in his native village in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district.

A Leader Against Corruption

Hazare reminisced about his agitation against corruption during Singh’s tenure in the early 2010s. The former Prime Minister’s willingness to engage in dialogue and make prompt decisions was commendable, according to the octogenarian activist. “He was against corruption and took immediate actions regarding the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act. He always prioritized the interests of the country and its people,” Hazare noted.

Economic Transformation

Singh, who served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, was pivotal in steering India towards becoming an economic powerhouse. Hazare remarked, “Manmohan Singh has left the world in physical form but will always remain in (people’s) memories.”
Singh’s passing at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday night at the age of 92 marks the end of an era, but his contributions to India’s development will endure.
