Andhra Pradesh First to Grant Gratuity for Asha Workers After 30 Years of Service

Andhra Pradesh Sets a Milestone for Asha Workers

In a groundbreaking move, Andhra Pradesh has become the first state in India to introduce gratuity payments for Asha workers, fulfilling a vital election promise made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. This initiative marks a significant step forward in recognizing the contributions of these dedicated health workers.

Asha Workers’ Gratuity: A Welcome Change

Asha workers who complete 30 years of service will now receive gratuity payments of up to ₹1.5 lakh. This decision not only rewards long-term service but also enhances the financial security of these frontline health workers. Andhra Pradesh has set a benchmark with the highest salary for Asha workers in the country, providing a monthly remuneration of ₹10,000. In comparison, Asha workers in other states earn significantly less— ₹750 in Uttar Pradesh, ₹3,000 in West Bengal and Delhi, ₹5,000 in Kerala, and ₹7,500 in Telangana.

Enhanced Benefits for Asha Workers

In addition to gratuity payments, the state government has approved 180 days of maternity leave as working days. Eligible workers will receive ₹60,000 in salary during their maternity leave, further supporting their financial well-being. Moreover, the government has promised additional post-retirement benefits, priority in auxiliary nurse midwife recruitment, and access to various social security schemes.

Recognition of Service

Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav emphasized that these benefits are a recognition of the invaluable service provided by Asha workers. This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the working conditions and financial security of these essential health workers.
