Kuno Cheetah on the Move: A Journey to Ranthambore

BHOPAL: In an exciting turn of events, one of the two cheetahs released into the wild at Kuno National Park has embarked on a journey towards Ranthambore in Rajasthan. The cheetah, believed to be Agni, was spotted crossing a road near Polytechnic College in Sheopur, approximately 360 km from Bhopal and just 20 km from the Rajasthan border.

As it wanders away from the protected boundaries of Kuno, the cheetah has traveled about 50-60 km from its original location, now positioned roughly 70 km from Ranthambore. Local residents were thrilled to catch a glimpse of this magnificent creature, sharing videos on social media that celebrated this rare sighting.

Monitoring and Safety Measures

The forest department is actively monitoring Agni’s movements, opting not to tranquilize the animal in hopes it will return safely to its home in Kuno. Officials have noted that the cheetah is currently in the process of establishing its territory, a behavior reminiscent of Pawan, also known as Oban, who was known for frequently wandering beyond Kuno’s confines.

Rajasthan’s forest officials have been alerted, and protocols established during a recent interstate coordination meeting will be implemented as they track Agni’s journey.
