NEW DELHI: In a significant move, Delhi Police registered 244 cases of violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) between January 7 and January 16. This proactive measure comes as the city gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8.
Intensified Vigilance
The police arrested a staggering 9,558 individuals during this period under various provisions, including the Excise Act. Authorities have ramped up surveillance at border checkpoints while cracking down on illegal activities, notably the smuggling of arms, liquor, and drugs.
Seizures and Confiscations
From January 7 to 16, law enforcement agencies seized an impressive haul, including:
- 152 illegal firearms and 110 cartridges
- 25,719 litres of liquor
- 62.21 kilograms of drugs, valued at over Rs 14 crore
- 1,200 banned injections
- Rs 1.84 crore in cash and 37.39 kg of silver
