The Ministry of Electronics and IT has appointed Bhuvnesh Kumar, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), according to an official press release on Wednesday, January 1.
“Along with CEO UIDAI, he continues to be an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. Earlier, he has also served as the Joint Secretary in MeitY,” said the Government of India press release.
UIDAI is the official authority that manages the identity verification systems in the country. This includes the issuance of Aadhaar numbers, maintaining and operating the Aadhaar cycle, and developing policies.
Who is Bhuvnesh Kumar?
Bhuvnesh Kumar is an IAS officer of the 1995 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He graduated from the National Institute of Technology and was a gold medalist.
Over the years, Bhuvnesh Kumar has held several important positions both at the Centre and in his cadre state.
Kumar entered government service in December 1993. He started as the Assistant Magistrate & Assistant Collector of Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh in 1996.
In 1997, he was appointed as the Joint Magistrate for Meerut. His career progressed with various administrative roles, including Magistrate and Collector of Hamirpur in 2001.
His most significant postings include Principal Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, and Secretary of Finance in Uttar Pradesh.
“He was also Secretary in charge of Sports and Youth Welfare, Planning, and Vocational Education,” added the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
