Ben Stokes to Undergo Surgery, Misses ICC Champions Trophy and Test Series
England’s Test cricket captain, Ben Stokes, is set to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and a subsequent Test series due to a torn left hamstring. This injury, sustained during the third Test against New Zealand, has forced Stokes to undergo surgery in January, sidelining him for at least three months.
The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that the talented all-rounder will begin his recovery process following the surgical procedure. Stokes, who is 33 years old, suffered the injury while bowling the 13th over in the second innings against New Zealand, an incident that has left fans concerned about his fitness.
Upcoming Fixtures Without Stokes
Stokes’ absence will be felt as England prepares for its next Test engagement—a one-off match against Zimbabwe in May—followed by a challenging five-Test series at home against India in July and August.
This is not the first time Stokes has faced injury setbacks. He previously missed four Tests due to a similar hamstring issue while playing in The Hundred in August. Despite these challenges, Stokes remains optimistic. In a recent post on X, he expressed his determination to return stronger, saying, “Something else to overcome…go on then! I’ve got so much more left in this tank and so much more blood, sweat, and tears to go through for my team and this shirt. There’s a reason I have a Phoenix permanently inked on my body.”
