Jakob Ingebrigtsen Sets Two Indoor World Records, Eyes 1500m World Championship Title

Jakob Ingebrigtsen: A Record-Breaking Start to 2025

In the remarkable first few months of 2025, Jakob Ingebrigtsen has already made headlines by setting two indoor world records and winning the 1500m and 3000m events at the European Indoor Championships for the third consecutive time. With his sights set on becoming the world champion in the 1500 meters later this year in Tokyo, Ingebrigtsen is poised for an even more rewarding season.

Chasing Glory in Tokyo

After securing silver in the last two editions of the World Championships, the double Olympic champion is determined to clinch gold in his favorite event. “Yes, that’s definitely the goal for the season,” Ingebrigtsen stated during an online interaction from Nanjing, where he will be competing in the World Indoor Championships.

Main Focus on the 1500 Meters

Ingebrigtsen emphasizes that the 1500 meters remains his main focus. “I will try to participate in the 5000 and 3000 meters as well, but ultimately, the 1500 metres is my main event and my favourite event,” he remarked. His commitment to this event is unwavering, and he continues to strive for personal bests.

Breaking Records

At the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in France last month, Ingebrigtsen shattered the indoor 1500m world record with a time of 3:29.63, improving upon his own previous record. While he acknowledges the challenge of breaking Hicham El Guerrouj’s long-standing outdoor 1500m world record of 3:26.00, he remains focused on self-improvement.
