Faf du Plessis Appointed Vice-Captain of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025
In an exciting announcement, Faf du Plessis, the seasoned South African batter, has been appointed as the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This news comes as a boost for the franchise, which is looking to enhance its performance in the tournament.
Selected at a base price of Rs 2 crore during last year’s mega auction in Jeddah, du Plessis is set to assist captain Axar Patel in leading the team. “Yes, that’s true, I’m vice-captain of DC and I’m very excited. Delhi’s been great, the boys have been fantastic, definitely feel happy and I feel ready,” du Plessis expressed in a video shared by the franchise.
Extensive Experience and Leadership
With a rich history of leadership both internationally and in the IPL, du Plessis brings invaluable experience to the Delhi Capitals. He previously captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from 2022 to 2024 and has a wealth of knowledge from leading South Africa at the international level. His record at RCB includes 42 matches with a balanced win-loss ratio, reaching the playoffs twice.
Now, du Plessis is poised to be a key player in DC’s lineup, collaborating closely with a revamped coaching staff that includes notable figures like Hemang Badani as head coach and Kevin Pietersen as mentor.
Looking Ahead to IPL 2025
Delhi Capitals will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 24. As one of the few franchises yet to lift the IPL trophy, the addition of du Plessis as vice-captain could be the catalyst for a successful season.
