India Shines at the Special Olympics Winter Games in Turin
NEW DELHI: India’s athletes have made the nation proud at the Special Olympics Winter Games in Turin, Italy, adding an impressive 15 more medals to their tally, bringing the total to 24. The performances on days three and four were nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the determination and skill of our athletes.
Gold Medal Triumphs
In the thrilling realm of alpine skiing, Deepak Thakur and Giridhar soared to victory, clinching gold medals in the Intermediate Super G M04 and M05 categories, respectively. Their outstanding performances highlighted India’s prowess in winter sports. Additionally, Abhishek Kumar and Radha Devi contributed to the medal tally with silver medals in the Novice Super G M01 and Intermediate Super G F03 events, showcasing their exceptional skiing abilities.
Speed Skating and Cross Country Achievements
On the ice, Ziara Porter demonstrated remarkable speed and determination, securing silver medals in both the 111M F1 and 222M F2 events of short track speed skating. Tanshu also made a mark, winning a bronze in the 777M M2 category and a silver in the 500M M3 category. In cross country skiing, Akriti’s commendable effort earned her a bronze medal in the 50M Classical Technique Final F03, adding to India’s diverse medal collection.
Snowshoeing Success
Snowshoeing athletes significantly boosted India’s medal tally as well. Vasu Tiwari shone brightly, securing a gold medal in the 50M Race M03 event. Jahangir and Tanya followed suit, winning silver medals in their respective categories. Shalini Chauhan also made her mark with a bronze in the 50M Race F03 category. Moreover, Anil Kumar emerged victorious in the 200M Race MP 12 division, while Harleen Kaur clinched silver in the F12 division.
