Manmohan Singh’s Family Approves Memorial Site at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal

Former PM Manmohan Singh’s Memorial Plot Accepted by Family

NEW DELHI: The family of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has officially accepted the plot designated for his memorial at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal. This significant decision paves the way for the establishment of a memorial dedicated to Singh, who was a pivotal figure in shaping India’s economic landscape.

Family’s Involvement

A senior official from the housing and urban affairs ministry confirmed that they received a formal letter from Singh’s family, indicating their acceptance of the site. Recent visits to the proposed memorial site were made by Singh’s three daughters, their husbands, and a former Union Finance Minister. The allocated plot spans approximately 900 square meters and is conveniently located next to the memorial site for former President Pranab Mukherjee.

Next Steps in the Memorial Process

Following the family’s acceptance, the next phase involves transferring the land to a trust that will be established in Singh’s honor. The family is tasked with proposing and finalizing the members of this trust, which is expected to be formed shortly. Once the trust is officially set up, the government will provide a one-time grant of ₹25 lakh to aid in the construction of the memorial.

Remembering a Visionary Leader

Manmohan Singh, often regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms, passed away on December 26 last year at the age of 92, due to age-related complications. His legacy continues to inspire future generations.
