Singapore Expands Work Visas for Indians Amid U.S. Immigration Crackdown

Singapore Expands Work Opportunities for Indian Professionals

Singapore is opening new doors for foreign workers, particularly benefiting Indian professionals and laborers. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has announced significant policy changes that make it easier for employers to hire and retain skilled talent from India.

More Job Openings, Longer Employment

Starting July 1, Singapore will eliminate the maximum employment period for work permit holders. Previously, foreign workers could stay for only 14 to 26 years, depending on their sector and country of origin. Indian workers in construction, shipyards, and process industries will now have the opportunity for long-term employment without arbitrary limits.
Additionally, the maximum age for employment has increased from 60 to 63, allowing experienced workers to remain in the workforce longer. New applicants will also benefit from an increased age cap of 61, up from 50, enabling senior professionals and skilled laborers from India to continue their careers in Singapore.

Higher Salaries, Expanded Job Sectors

The reforms also promise better pay. The qualifying salary for S Pass holders will rise to SGD 3,300 (approximately Rs 2.04 lakh) from September. For mid-career professionals in their 40s, salaries could reach SGD 4,800 (around Rs 3 lakh). In financial services, the qualifying salary starts at SGD 3,800.
Moreover, the range of job opportunities for skilled Indian workers is expanding. Beginning in September, roles such as cooks, heavy vehicle drivers, and manufacturing operators will be included in the job list, providing more avenues for Indian talent to enter Singapore’s job market.

A Boost for Indian Talent

Singapore’s economy thrives on a mix of local and foreign talent. Manpower Minister Tan See Leng emphasized that restricting foreign workers would hinder businesses and limit opportunities for locals. With these new measures, Indian professionals and skilled laborers can expect a stronger foothold in Singapore, ensuring a steady flow of jobs and bolstering economic ties between the two nations.
