Explosive Revelations from Former Tihar Jail Official
NEW DELHI: Former Tihar Jail PRO Sunil Kumar Gupta has made shocking claims about the privileges afforded to Subrata Roy, the late founder of the Sahara Group, during his time in prison. In a recent interview with ANI, Gupta alleged that air hostesses from Sahara Airlines frequently visited Roy in jail, spending extended hours with him.
Facilities and Allegations
Gupta recounted that Roy was initially placed in a regular jail but later required a facility with video conferencing capabilities to negotiate deals related to his hotels. Despite the Supreme Court’s directive for legal proceedings, Gupta observed numerous illegal activities occurring within the jail.
He reported these concerns during meetings with the Director General of Prisons, but his complaints were perceived as personal grievances against the DG. In a bid to escalate the issue, Gupta approached then-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, informing him of the irregularities but received little support in addressing the matter.
Unfolding Events
Gupta recalled that Kejriwal suggested documenting the situation on video, but Gupta felt it would be inappropriate and encouraged the CM to investigate personally. Ultimately, no significant action was taken, and Gupta faced repercussions, including a 15-page chargesheet upon his retirement, which he was exonerated from after several years of distress.
Subrata Roy was incarcerated from 2014 to 2016 and passed away on November 14, 2023, due to cardiorespiratory arrest at the age of 75.
