Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram Slam Pakistan’s Management After Disastrous Champions Trophy Loss to India

Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram Slam Pakistan Team Management After ICC Champions Trophy Defeat

Former Pakistan cricket legends Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram have expressed their anger and disappointment over the national team’s management following a six-wicket loss to India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This defeat, which took place at the Dubai International Stadium, has left Pakistan’s hopes for the tournament hanging by a thread.
Akhtar didn’t hold back in his critique, labeling the management as “brainless and clueless.” He criticized the decision to field only five bowlers, suggesting that modern teams typically rely on six. “You go with two all-rounders, but this is just brainless and clueless management. I am really disappointed,” he stated. He also pointed to a lack of leadership and skill among the players, indicating that the team’s struggles stem from poor guidance.
Echoing Akhtar’s sentiments, Akram called for “drastic steps” to rebuild the Pakistan white-ball team. “We are playing archaic cricket,” he lamented, urging the inclusion of fearless young players. Akram’s frustration was evident as he revealed alarming statistics about Pakistan’s bowling performance, noting that they have taken just 24 wickets in the last five ODIs at an average of 60 runs per wicket—worse than even Oman and the USA.
The former fast bowler also questioned Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s decision-making, criticizing the selection of players who have not performed. “Even the captain (Rizwan) is to blame. If he doesn’t know what kind of match-winner he needs, it’s embarrassing,” Akram said.
Despite the grim situation for Pakistan, Akhtar praised Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who scored a brilliant century in the match. With Pakistan’s chances in the tournament dwindling, the call for an overhaul in the team’s structure and management is growing louder.
