Bihar stands as the largest producer of makhana, a superfood that has gained attention in recent political discussions. Notably, during the Budget session this year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed the establishment of a Makhana Board in Bihar. This initiative aims to enhance the production and processing of this nutritious nut, signifying its growing significance in the agricultural landscape of the state.
Political Developments in Seemanchal-Kosi Region
In a related political move, independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, has voiced concerns over the neglect of the Seemanchal-Kosi region. He called for a ‘bandh’ in his Purnea Lok Sabha constituency and surrounding areas, advocating for the establishment of a Makhana Board in Purnea. Yadav has threatened to block train traffic if necessary to emphasize their demands.
