JAMMU: A soldier sustained injuries in a landmine explosion along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. This incident marks the fourth such occurrence since January 14, when a landmine blast in the Nowshera sector injured at least six soldiers.

Details of the Incident

The blast took place at 10:50 AM in the forward area of the Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar. According to sources, the soldier accidentally stepped on a landmine during a routine patrol. He was promptly airlifted to the command hospital in Udhampur for medical treatment.

Previous Incidents

On January 21, another soldier was injured in a similar landmine blast within the Krishna Ghati sector. Officials have noted that the forward areas are equipped with a network of landmines as part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system. These landmines may sometimes be displaced due to heavy rains, leading to unfortunate accidents.

Additional Developments

On February 20, an Army rifleman, Mohd Asif Rather, was injured during a patrol in the Balakote sector of Mendhar due to a similar incident. Moreover, on the same day as the recent explosion, Army troops discovered a rusted mortar shell in Fazalabad village of Surankote area during their patrol. The area was cordoned off, and the shell was safely defused.
