Shikhar Dhawan Appointed Event Ambassador for ICC Champions Trophy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named former India opener Shikhar Dhawan as one of the four event ambassadors for the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy. This tournament will take place in Pakistan and Dubai from February 19 to March 9, showcasing the world’s top eight cricketing nations.
Joining Dhawan as ambassadors are Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy-winning captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, and New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee. These cricketing legends will contribute guest columns and attend matches, providing insights and commentary during the tournament.
Dhawan expressed his excitement, stating, “It is such a special feeling to be part of a Champions Trophy, and to be given the opportunity to enjoy the upcoming edition as an Ambassador is an honour. It’s a tournament full of passion, pride, and determination, making it a thrilling journey for everyone involved.”
The left-handed batsman holds the record as India’s highest run-scorer in Champions Trophy history, amassing 701 runs across two editions. He is notably the only player to have won consecutive Golden Bats for the highest run-scorer in the tournament, with accolades that include being named Player of the Tournament in 2013.
Sarfaraz Ahmed shared his enthusiasm for the tournament returning to Pakistan, reminiscing about lifting the trophy in 2017. Both Southee and Watson also conveyed their excitement, with Watson stating, “With the top eight teams going head-to-head for the iconic white jackets, we are sure to see some extraordinary do-or-die cricket across three thrilling weeks.”
