VARANASI/BHOPAL: The sacred atmosphere of the Kumbh Mela has been overshadowed by tragedy, as eight pilgrims lost their lives in separate road accidents on Sunday. This unfortunate series of events has increased the death toll from such mishaps since the beginning of the world’s largest religious congregation to a staggering 79.

Details of the Fatal Incidents

In one of the most devastating accidents, an SUV carrying ten pilgrims returning to Raipur after attending the Maha Kumbh collided with a trailer near Daranakhar in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra around 7:15 AM. The victims included Anil Pradhan (37), Laxmi Bai (30), Thakur Ram Yadav (58), and Rukmani Yadav (56). Six other passengers suffered serious injuries in this tragic incident, as reported by Sonbhadra ASP Kalu Singh.

Another heart-wrenching accident occurred in Sonbhadra, where a woman named Lata Rath from Kandhamal tragically lost her life when their bus, on its way to Prayagraj, collided with another bus in the Piparikhand area on Sunday afternoon. Her sister sustained injuries in the crash.

In Satna, Madhya Pradesh, three members of a family, including an 11-year-old child from Rewa, were killed when their pickup van collided with an SUV on the Satna-Chitrakoot highway around 12:30 AM on Sunday.
