BJP’s Vision for West Bengal: Aiming for 2026 Assembly Elections
Kolkata: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed confidence on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure power in West Bengal during the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. Addressing the media, Pradhan criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government for hindering central projects while falsely accusing the Centre of neglecting the state.
Strengthening Vote Share
Pradhan highlighted the BJP’s consistent vote share of 30-40% since 2019, suggesting that a further 10% increase could lead to the ousting of the current government. “In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, we won 18 out of 42 seats, and in the 2021 assembly elections, we secured 77 seats,” he stated, asserting that the party is on the path to success.
Central Projects Stalled
He further elaborated on how the TMC government has reportedly obstructed the establishment of a 710-km gas pipeline that would connect Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Despite multiple discussions with the state government, progress has been stalled due to land allocation issues.
Education Sector Concerns
On the education front, Pradhan criticized the state for opposing the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines that enhance governance in state-run universities. He encouraged the TMC government to cooperate with the Centre to improve the education system in West Bengal.
Call for Collaboration
Pradhan urged state officials to embrace initiatives like the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Yojana, which aligns with the New Education Policy’s vision of multilingual education. He emphasized the necessity of cooperation for the holistic development of children in West Bengal.
