Rohit Sharma’s Form: A Steady Hand Amidst Challenges
India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has expressed unwavering confidence in captain Rohit Sharma’s abilities, despite recent performance struggles. Following a challenging Test series in Australia and a modest outing of two runs in the ODI opener against England, Kotak remains optimistic about Rohit’s potential to bounce back.
Kotak emphasized, “I personally don’t think there is any problem. In the last three One-dayers before the series opener, Rohit scored 56, 64, and 35 against Sri Lanka, nearly averaging over 50.” He highlighted Rohit’s impressive track record, boasting 31 ODI centuries, stating, “When he keeps scoring runs in back-to-back matches, nobody asks, ‘When will he fail?’”
The coach acknowledged the challenges of the Australia Test series but reiterated that Rohit’s recent form in ODIs should not be a cause for concern. “Sometimes when somebody is going through a lean patch, I wouldn’t be worried about their form. The way he batted in the last three ODIs shows he has always been scoring runs,” Kotak added during the pre-match press conference before the second ODI in Cuttack.
In the first ODI at Nagpur, India successfully chased down 249 runs despite losing two early wickets. Shubman Gill’s commendable 87 off 96 balls, along with strong performances from Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, secured a comfortable victory in just 38.4 overs. Kotak praised the batting unit, stating, “Gill, Iyer, and Patel batted really well. There were a lot of positives – the way we batted and showed our intent.”
As fans rally behind the team, it’s essential to remember that every player goes through ups and downs. Rohit Sharma’s experience and talent will undoubtedly play a crucial role in India’s upcoming matches.
