Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s Insights on Delhi Elections
MUMBAI: In a recent statement, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut expressed his belief that a collaborative alliance between the Congress and AAP could have decisively defeated the BJP in the Delhi assembly elections. As the counting trends unfold, the AAP appears to be losing ground to the BJP, which has been rapidly gaining seats.
Impact of AAP-Congress Division
Raut pointed out that had the AAP and Congress united against the BJP, the outcome would likely have been different. “Both parties fought separately against the BJP. Had they contested jointly, the BJP’s defeat would have been certain,” Raut remarked, urging the need for opposition parties to learn from this experience.
Concerns Over Voter Irregularities
Raut also raised concerns about irregularities in the voter lists in Maharashtra, alleging a “Maharashtra pattern” was replicated in Delhi. He claimed that 39 lakh votes were added during the Maharashtra assembly polls, suggesting these changes influenced the recent election results in Delhi.
Current Election Trends
As per the latest trends from the Election Commission, the BJP is leading in 43 out of Delhi’s 70 seats, while the AAP is trailing with only 16 seats. Prominent leaders like former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia have conceded defeat, further solidifying the BJP’s position in the capital.
Challenges Faced by AAP
Raut emphasized that the AAP was hindered in its governance, citing the influence of the Lieutenant Governor and the imprisonment of key leaders as factors contributing to their defeat. “This is the Maharashtra pattern to finish leadership that stands up to the BJP,” he concluded.
