Shubman Gill Confirms Virat Kohli’s Fitness Ahead of Second ODI Against England

Virat Kohli’s Fitness Update: Shubman Gill Assures Fans

India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill has put to rest any concerns regarding Virat Kohli’s fitness ahead of the second One-Day International (ODI) against England. Kohli missed the first match due to swelling in his right knee, but Gill confirmed that he is fit and ready to return.

Kohli’s Brief Absence

Despite Kohli’s absence in the series opener in Nagpur, Gill stated, “It’s nothing serious. He was fine during practice, but he woke up with some swelling in his knee. He’ll definitely be back for the second ODI.”

Shubman Gill’s Performance

In the first ODI, Gill showcased his skills by scoring a commendable 87 runs, contributing to India’s four-wicket victory. He emphasized the need to adapt to the game situation while batting, regardless of personal milestones. “I wasn’t thinking about my century. I was focused on the field placements and played my shots accordingly,” Gill explained.

Strategic Adaptability

Transitioning from opening to batting at number three, Gill adjusted seamlessly. “It’s always a challenge, but I play at No. 3 in Tests, so it wasn’t a big adjustment. My approach was simple – play according to the situation,” he added. Gill also highlighted the importance of assessing the field to score runs more effectively.

Team Tactics and Individual Choices

Addressing the use of innovative shots like the sweep and reverse sweep, Gill clarified that these are individual tactics rather than a team strategy. “Every batsman has a plan to target specific areas,” he noted, reinforcing the team’s focus on skill development.
