Jasprit Bumrah Undergoes Fitness Assessment Ahead of Champions Trophy
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s premier fast bowler, has arrived in Bengaluru for crucial scans and assessments under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team. His participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy hinges on the results of these evaluations.
Bumrah, who was included in India’s Champions Trophy squad last month, is expected to spend at least two to three days at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The specialists will closely monitor his condition and provide their findings to the men’s senior selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar.
Timeline and Expectations
Agarkar previously indicated that Bumrah was instructed to “off-load for five weeks” following the Sydney Test. He confirmed that Bumrah would miss the first two ODIs against England and that the medical team’s update would clarify his fitness status in early February.
The selectors are under pressure as they have a little over a week to finalize the 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy, which must be submitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC). If Bumrah is unable to participate, Harshit Rana is poised to take his place for the ODIs against England.
Preparations for the Champions Trophy
As the Men in Blue gear up for the ICC event, they have scheduled a short training camp in Nagpur before the ODI series against England begins. Following this, the team is set to travel to Dubai on February 15, where they will prepare for the tournament that could culminate in a thrilling final.
