Sachin Tendulkar’s Heartfelt Request for His Final Match in Mumbai

Sachin Tendulkar’s Emotional Farewell at Wankhede Stadium

In a heartfelt recollection, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar shared memorable moments from his final international match at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Speaking at an event commemorating the stadium’s 50-year anniversary, Sachin reflected on his illustrious career and the emotional significance of that day.

A Special Request for His Last Match

Tendulkar revealed that he had requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to schedule his last match in Mumbai, enabling his mother to watch him play live for the first time. “I played cricket for around 30 years—24 years for India. My mother had never seen me play. At that time, her health was not good enough to travel, so I wanted her to see why I had been moving around for so long,” he shared.

Emotions on the Final Day

As he stepped onto the field, emotions ran high for Sachin knowing it was his last performance for India. “The moment was surreal; I fought through emotions as I came to bat. Watching my family on the big screen brought tears. It felt like those managing the screen had a West Indies passport, playing with my emotions,” he humorously added.

Reflecting on the 2011 World Cup Victory

Sachin also reminisced about another unforgettable moment at Wankhede—India’s victory in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. “When I saw the World Cup win in 1983, I was motivated to have a trophy in my hand too. It was the best moment of my life,” he stated. In that final, India chased down 275 runs, with Sachin being the highest run-scorer in the tournament, accumulating 482 runs in nine matches.
