Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s poor performance in India’s home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand has sparked discussions about whether it’s the end of the road for these two cricketing legends. However, former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali has urged fans to remain patient and maintain faith in players who have been heroes of Indian cricket.
Kohli managed to score 99 runs across two Tests against Bangladesh and only 93 runs in three Tests against New Zealand. Captain Rohit Sharma fared slightly better with a total of 42 runs against Bangladesh and 91 against the Kiwis.

This has led to fans on social media and some experts questioning if this marks the end of an era and whether the upcoming tour of Australia will be the last for stalwarts like Kohli, Rohit, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja.
Basit, in a video on his YouTube channel, questioned, “What they are talking about now is remove Virat, remove Rohit, remove Ashwin. Do you have any players of their quality? Will you bring Abhishek Sharma, a T20 player? Tell me.”
While Basit acknowledged that both Rohit and Virat lack match practice — having opted out of the Duleep Trophy before the Bangladesh series, unlike most of their peers — he emphasized the importance of giving them time to regain their form.

“There’s a lack of match practice for both Virat and Rohit. They need matches. Let them play on flat tracks, so that they stay on the wicket for at least two sessions,” he said.
Notably, India has canceled their only practice match in Australia against India ‘A’ to focus more on net practice. The five-Test series in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off on November 22 in Perth, which will also play a crucial role in determining India’s qualification for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Basit advised the fans, “Apne heroes ko zeroes mat banao. We (in Pakistan) criticize Babar Azam, Shan Masood, Mohammad Rizwan; but we don’t say they should be out of the team. They will come back to form.”
He concluded by asking, “But saying things like ‘end of an era’, that’s going a bit too far. Will cricket end if you don’t qualify for the World Test Championship final?”
