In a recent statement, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla addressed the swirling rumors regarding internal conflicts among chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and captain Rohit Sharma. Following India’s disappointing 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, reports of discord had captured media attention. However, Shukla firmly refuted these claims, stating, “Completely wrong statement to be made. No rift between coach and selection chairman. No rift between coach and captain.”
Understanding Player Form: A Natural Phase
Shukla also touched upon the concerns surrounding the recent performance of key players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He emphasized that fluctuations in form are a natural part of a sports career. “When you play sport, being in form, being not in form happens. These are phases of life. Looking ahead, Shukla confirmed that the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, will be finalized by January 18 or 19. This tournament, hosted across Pakistan and the UAE, will see India playing all matches in the UAE. The marquee event will feature eight teams, with India set to kick off their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
Group A includes defending champions Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B features Australia, Afghanistan, England, and South Africa. Notably, a highly anticipated encounter between India and Pakistan is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
