Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia Elected Unopposed as BCCI Secretary and Treasurer

In a significant move for Indian cricket, Devajit Saikia from Assam and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia from Chhattisgarh have been elected unopposed as the new secretary and treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This decision was finalized during a Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Mumbai on Sunday.

Succession of Leadership

Saikia and Bhatia fill the roles left vacant by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar. Shah recently stepped down as BCCI secretary to take on the prestigious role of ICC chairman, while Shelar resigned following his appointment as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. Saikia had already been performing the secretary’s duties since Shah’s transition to the ICC, having previously served as joint secretary.

No Voting Required

Electoral officer AK Joti confirmed that the two elective posts were uncontested, making a formal poll unnecessary. “The Two Elective Posts of the Office Bearers – Secretary and Treasurer were Uncontested, and it was not necessary to conduct a Poll in respect of these Two Posts,” Joti stated in his declaration of results. This smooth transition underscores the confidence that BCCI has in the capabilities of both Saikia and Bhatia.

Looking Ahead

With Saikia and Bhatia at the helm, the BCCI is poised for a new chapter in its administration. Their leadership is expected to focus on enhancing cricketing infrastructure and supporting the growth of the sport across India.
