Australia’s Hopeful Outlook for Cameron Green in World Test Championship Final
Australia’s chief selector, George Bailey, has expressed optimism regarding the availability of star all-rounder Cameron Green for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa at Lord’s in June. Green, who underwent lower back surgery last October due to a stress fracture, is currently on the road to recovery.
In a recent update, Bailey shared that Green is expected to resume batting by May. Following a video posted by the 25-year-old showing him running on the field, there are growing hopes that he might feature as a batsman in the WTC final.
Bailey stated, “Very hopeful he will be available as a batsman for the World Test Championship final,” highlighting the selectors’ positive outlook on Green’s recovery process. The next significant milestone for Green will be post-operative scans scheduled for next month, which will assess his progress. While he may be ready to bat, bowling may require additional time before he can fully participate.
In the same breath, Bailey addressed the recent exclusion of Mitchell Marsh from the Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka. While Marsh has been out of form, Bailey remains optimistic about his future contributions, noting, “I don’t necessarily see it as the end of the road for him.” He emphasized Marsh’s unique skill set, which could be beneficial, particularly with the Ashes series on the horizon.
With Pat Cummins absent, Steve Smith will captain the Australian side during the two-Test series starting January 29 in Galle. As fans eagerly await the return of both Green and Marsh, the Australian team is gearing up for an exciting year ahead.
