On Sunday, January 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, a significant step in enhancing regional connectivity. This new rail service aims to facilitate quicker travel between the capital and Meerut, making it a transformative addition to the transport network.
Connecting Delhi and Meerut in Just 40 Minutes
The inauguration will mark the opening of a 13-kilometre stretch between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, allowing commuters to travel between Delhi and Meerut via Ghaziabad in just 40 minutes. According to an official statement, Modi will also lay the foundation stone for various development projects worth over ₹12,200 crore at around 12:15 PM.
Improving Travel Experience
The Namo Bharat trains promise high-speed, comfortable, and reliable travel, significantly easing the daily commute for millions. The first station on the route is Sahibabad, while Meerut serves as the final destination. Currently, nine operational stations exist on the 42 km route, which will be extended to 55 km with the addition of two more stations.
Route Expansion Plans
Future expansions include extending the train line from Jangpura to Sahibabad and from Meerut South to Modipuram Depot. The fare from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South is set at ₹150 for a standard coach and ₹255 for a premium coach.
