Decision Imminent on Manmohan Singh Memorial Site After Top Officials’ Site Visits

Decision on Manmohan Singh Memorial Site Underway

NEW DELHI: Senior officials from the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, including Secretary K Srinivas, recently visited several potential sites at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal and nearby Vijay Ghat for the memorial dedicated to the late Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A final decision on the location is expected soon.

Prior assessments have been conducted by different teams, evaluating areas adjacent to Kisan Ghat, Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, and the Sanjay Gandhi memorial. These explorations are part of ongoing discussions between the Home Ministry and officials from Urban Affairs.

Next Steps in Memorial Planning

The Land and Development Office of the Urban Affairs Ministry is responsible for the land allotment for the memorial. Sources indicate that the government will seek consent from Singh’s family before the land is officially allocated to a trust, which will be tasked with constructing the memorial.

It has been reported that some officials have already met with members of Singh’s family to discuss the memorial. Following standard protocol, once the land is allocated, the trust will receive it at a nominal fee. The Central Public Works Department will oversee the development, with costs borne by the trust.

The government has expressed its commitment to honoring the legacy of the former Prime Minister, ensuring that the memorial reflects his contributions to the nation.
